Before everyone freaks out :) Feb. 4th, 2007 @ 06:34 pm

Blame it on my migraine, I should have added in that I am not going purely by the numbers on the poll here - I realize that some authors have counted on the privacy of 852 for a long time and I will not make stories public without an author's permission.

My goal in doing the poll is get the TS community's general feeling about that, to have a discussion and see what people think. My personal inclination is towards making it an option on the upload form so the author can pick and choose what's public and what's not. I do completely respect an author's right to privacy, there's no need to jump the gun and send me zillions of emails about pulling stories. :)

So don't worry that just because a bunch of people choose one option, I'll suddenly flip a switch and change everything. I am sensitive to both the minority viewpoint and the author's viewpoint, it's not a strict majority rule type of thing.

Should the 852 archive be opened to search engines? Feb. 4th, 2007 @ 04:30 pm
[info]alicettlg
Currently everything at the 852 archive is not searchable by any search engines, such as Google and Yahoo. Enabling web search engines would allow for searches within story text and make it easier to find stories where you don't know the author or title.

But it's been closed to search engines for years, lots of authors have uploaded stories and some may have done so with the expectation that search engines would not see their stories.

ETA: If you don't have an LJ account, you can leave a comment with your vote instead, you can do that anonymously, no LJ account required.

ETA: Please also read this addendum here.

So I'm asking for opinions...

Vox Populli server downtime Feb. 11th, 2006 @ 10:35 am
[info]alicettlg
Some problems with bandwidth logging on the Vox Populli server are being corrected right now, this may result in the 852prospect.org site being down for the next hour or so.

Mirror of 852 Prospect Oct. 2nd, 2005 @ 08:51 pm
[info]alicettlg
I've set up a mirror of the archive at:

852 at Vox Populli

Uploading stories is disabled so that there's no duplication or loss of stories when Squidge is working again but everything else works, the stories are there, the Quicksearch links work and so does the search engine.

ETA: As of 2/7/2006, Squidge is now the mirror site with the primary site being at www.852prospect.org and uploading is disabled at Squidge.

Thanks to Jessi for giving me the info about Walter's [info]squidgestatus, that gives more up to date info about the server and when it will be working again.
» Squidge is still down
Squidge has been down for several days now. I don't have any info on when it will be back up again - I'm sure Walter's working hard to get it up and running again as soon as possible.

As a temporary fix, I am uploading the archive to one of my domains, it'll take a few hours to get it set up and running, as soon it's working, I'll post the temporary url here as well as to SXF and Senad.

» Problems?

I've been unable to get to the archive for a couple of days now + several pages that has squidge.com in their address. Has anyone else had this problem? Or is just something with my internet connection??

Marie

» Problem with Squidge?
I just tried accessing the archive and got an internal server error message. Is it just me?
